Bach After Vivaldi - U.S. Army Federal Brass

For my last blog post, I wanted to feature this super cool arrangement of "Bach BWV 972 after Vivaldi RV 230" arranged for brass quintet by Sgt. 1st Class J.G. Miller. Vivaldi wrote this violin concerto in 1711 and it was later adapted by Bach in 1713 for harpsichord.

About the U.S Army Field Band:

"From Boston to Baghdad, Tampa to Toronto, The United States Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than six decades. As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, this internationally-acclaimed organization travels thousands of miles each year presenting a variety of music to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and abroad. Through these concerts, the Field Band fosters the support of the American people for members of the armed forces and supports diplomatic efforts around the world." I could not find and info on this particular brass group so I assume they might've just gotten together for this project.

This arrangement is insane. its one thing to give the melody to a trumpet, but to give it to the horn and for them to successfully pull it off? Legendary. His technique in the video is fantastic and I envy how much he is able to play on one breath. And can we talk about the trombones??

There's been many different arrangements of this piece. One of them Kevin showed us in class during his listening presentation. I will attach that video below:

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks post!
